The Oath

Hadly knew more than enough about taking an oath. Wasn't there an oath a day as he pledged allegiance to his flag, to his United States of America. Then there's that one big oath he made to his United States of America upon enlistment. That oath cost so much as it turned out.

So it came as a genuine wonderment, that's the word, wonderment, when he learned civil servants break their oath to avoid conflict of interests. Hadly had taken such an oath as a county employee, and more than once. He knew about such things. Breaking an oath seemed unconstitutinoal, unfair, undignified, wrong.

Hadly knew about right and wrong too. Hadn't he worked with hundreds of juvenile delinqunets. Hadn't he worked with hundreds, thousands, of high school students. Hadn't he taught Ccrime scene cleanup writing to help students cleanup a future contaminated by their parents' social and environmental wrongs? Hadn't he shared stories about right and wrong. Never did Hadly preached, condmened, or chastised those who ignored right from wrong. No, Hadly's place on Earth meant showing how right living, not wrong living, meant more for future generations, posterity.

So it came to pass that Hadly began an earnest creation of crime scene cleanup ethics. Like Socratese, Plato, and Aristotle, Hadly created a school, a crime scene cleanup school. In his school, Hadly taught about the oath, its importance to humanity. And in this way Hadly became knowas an educator in things right and wrong

For some time Hadly taught about institutions. How when one institution follows another, the first one disappears to make room for new ideas and patterns of behavior, a new insittution held aloft by oaths, laws, and allegiances. He taught too that the old institution's ways may actually continue in new institutions, only changed. So under a new name the old institution continues, but under a new name. At times the old institution stands clearly aside, benefitting the new institution's presence for a short while. Just like us, humanity, social institutions often have several heirs.

The oath comes to us as such an institution, engraved from our past into our minds. With hope, ruling elites sought to contol their followers with oaths, magical incantations empowering a spiritual world to bring down an ordeal of one sort or another. In fact, an ordeal usually proceeded the oath, if we must believe Hadly. He would not, could not insist so, only Hadly preached, condmened, or chastised those who ignored right from wrong. No, Hadly's place on Earth meant showing how right living, not wrong living, meant more for future generations, posterity.

Not so long ago we believed our dead somehow lived on in the oath. By invoking its power through our words, we brought the dead forward into our very own lives, and under penalty of their condemnation should we break our oath.

Even in Orange County, California, courts invoke the oath as a powerful legal procedure. Abstract now, an empty symbol, a legal ceremony, it continues as a relic of magic in law. It serves "justice" by giving judges an excuse to condemn liers, breakers of the oath. Hadly stood in awe as he stood inside these magical courts and their oaths. "Here," he imagined, "an oath carries powerful magic." "Here stood a social institution for posterity," Hadly imagined.

Long before Hadly question the oath's magic, he had used Google for a crime scene cleanup search. He knew a calling awatied his skills and abilities, a calling without an oath, a calling nonetheless. Hadly had long remembered the place of the oath in death and dying soldiers. They too knew the oath and its magic. So Hadly wanted to share his sills and abilities as he knew those of the death oath would approve. He started his own ORANGE-COUNTY-CRIME-SCENE-CLEANUP.

In this helpful and socially needed occupation Hadly pledged to work hard. He pledged to honor the dead and their families. Hadly's crime scene cleanup prices would reflect his skills, abilities, and knowledge related to cleaning and learning. Families would receive his greatest care and concern. And most of all, he guaranteed his work, no questions asked. After all, a family stuck by a violent homicide, a violent suicide, or an unattended death needed more care and fair prices. They needed to step beyond their horrific death cleanup needs into a world free of their horrific moment.

Hadly imagine his wife of decades tagging along to sort through surviving children's clothing, making neat, clean piles of t-shirts, socks, and shirts. All traces of blood he would have removed, if removal were possible. His wife would glow with care and love for tiny children left motherless by father's broken oath to "love and to cherish till death do us part." And it came to pass that this scene appeared and passed as one homicide cleanup among many others, but few in the beginning, and then next to none in Orange County.

Hadly would serve in his Ccrime scene cleanup help calling, but as he worked at crime scene cleanup in California's many other counties.

He came to know what he called "crime scene cleanup counties" from those he called "

Never could Hadly imagine owning so many crime scene cleanup web sites. Each morning he began anew an old pattern. More tea bags. More boiling water. More writer's block. No herb would ever again claim tea's power. The "Sun never sat" on the British Empire's seaward thrust across oceans of water in search of tea for England's boiling tea water. I see it now. A crime scene cleanup business it was. Crmes against natives for tea drinkers like Hadly.

"Take tea and see" the old Lipton Tea advertisements went. Either before or after those "Salem cigarettes" for those stylish women who'd "come a long way, baby." Sooner or later Ccrime scene cleanup's frequently asked questions would come to mind ad Hadly recalled the role of xxyyzz. Surely a wise reader would one day ask to know the origins of mother's Salem habit. Inquirering minds want to know. Hadly knew.

Day in and day out, Hadly worked to end the Orange County, California coroner's monopoly over crime scene cleanup blood and suicide clean-up. There's not much Hadly hadn't done by this time in his life. Never had he imagined consumer advocate as an occuption; never had he imagined web master as an occuption, and never had he imagined web page content writing as an occuptation. Numerous dry, black black tea bags absent their strings testified to Hadly's disipline and addiction to revealing corruption in law enforcement.

Hadly planned a crime scene cleanup book as one approach to revealing Orange County's government corruption. He bought and displayed
crime scene cleanup bumper sticker pictures on his crime scene cleanup web site.
